Day Trips

For those of you who have the time to explore more of Texas, particularly you “Snowbirds,” you will want to spend a little time in both Austin and San Antonio. Also, enjoy a drive through the Hill Country to the quaint town of Fredericksburg with stops in Marble Falls and Johnson City.

Austin Steam Train:

The train leaves from Cedar Park, just 11 miles from The Hollows. Take a fantastic journey through the Austin Hill Country. The Hill Country Flyer and Bertram Flyer run nearly every weekend of the year providing riders with a memorable journey on Austin's greatest rail adventure! They also offer Special Rides for not-to-be-missed theme adventures from Thomas The Tank Engine for the youngsters, to our always popular Murder Mystery night trains.  The Bertram Flyer follows the scenic route of the Hill Country Flyer, but offers passengers a shorter journey from Cedar Park to Bertram and return. The 15-minute layover is enough time to step off and tour our fully restored 1912 train depot. The Hill country Flyer is the original and most popular train. Ride 66 miles round-trip from Cedar Park to Burnet through the Texas Hill Country. Enjoy time for lunch and shopping during the layover in Burnet. After arriving, the train deboards just 2 blocks from the downtown square. Several dining options are within walking distance. Or look for the restaurant shuttles at the Depot!.
